What makes rats amazing little creatures?

I know many of you would be wondering why I prefer rats of all animals. As it turns out, rats are not as bad as people often mistake them to be. The only downside to them is the negative image associated with them that keeps people from getting them. When you consider buying them, you would realize there are many adorable and cute aspects of them.

  • Rats are very sociable. Unlike other rodents, rats don’t quarrel and stay perfectly happy in groups. They are also very affectionate towards humans. Not only do they dwell well in groups, but they also take care of sick rats. How adorable is that? If kept in isolation, rats can get sad, lonely and depressed, so make sure your little friend always has company.
  • Rats have sharp memories. They are quick to learn and once they master a skill, they remember it for life. This makes training them easier. They also respond to their names and come when called. Isn’t that fascinating?
  • They are responsive. When rats are happy, they let out a cheerful sound that is close to laughter and their eyes start vibrating. It’s an absolute delight to watch them when they are happy, and it changes your mood for the better.
  • Romans consider them as signs of good luck. Surprising, no? Nevertheless, it is true. Romans believe that bringing rats brings good luck.
  • Rats give in to peer pressure! Rats and humans aren’t much different when exposed to peer pressure. They will conform to fit their peers at any cost. The desire to fit in is so strong that they will even have unpalatable food if others in their group are eating it.
  • Rats can go longer without water than camels!
  • Rats use their whiskers to perceive their surroundings. They don’t have great eyesight and have to rely on their whiskers for better interpretation of their environment.
  • Rats are clean animals! Contrary to popular belief, pet rats keep themselves very tidy. They are cleaner than even cats. This makes them completely safe pets. You don’t need to vaccinate them as they don’t carry any disease. They are also suitable pets for children.
  • Some breeds of rats like African rats are trained to detect landmines. They are small enough not to be detected by landmines, so sometimes, these little creatures prove to be life savers.
  • Rats are the best climbers. They use their tails to maintain their body balance and temperature and to communicate.
  • Rats love to snack. Their diet should, therefore, have a variety of vegetables and fruits. They also enjoy chocolate, so you can give it to them but in moderation.
  • They are adventurous little creatures, exploring new places. They were even the first ones to visit outer space. Isn’t that cool?
